The Prince of Wales Set to Attend UN Climate Conference in South America

Prince William plans to participate in the COP30 climate summit in South America in the coming weeks, according to royal officials.

Prince William and King Charles appeared together on Thursday evening at a reception ahead of the climate summit, which is planned for in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.

The royal pair were present at the Natural History Museum reception, marking an rare public appearance together at a climate summit preparatory event organized in partnership with the UK government.

Environmental Advocacy Dedication

King Charles has been a longstanding advocate of environmental conservation - and Prince William has taken on the baton, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be taking place in South America before the UN meeting.

Palace insiders have described the Prince's participation at the forthcoming conference as taking on an important role in "global climate discussions".

Previous Activities

The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the royal vehicle, were greeted guests including conservation experts, scientists, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and government officials.

This participation included speaking together with French leader Macron of France and other international figures at the Marine Economy Conference in the Principality of Monaco during the current year.

The COP30 summit will coincide with the prince's own sustainability recognition program, which will wrap up in Rio de Janeiro the previous day he participates in the climate conference on November 6th.

In recent days the prince characterized the award contenders as "heroes of our time".

Royal Climate Legacy

King Charles has been a key figure at past COP meetings, delivering the inaugural speech in Dubai for COP28, including the statement: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".

"I have spent a large proportion of my life trying to raise awareness about the critical dangers confronting humanity over planetary heating, environmental shifts and biodiversity loss," the monarch informed participants.
