A 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased just days after being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The investigation learned how his parent got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her offspring. The message added: "Inform him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the items was never stolen in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged stolen remains attracted social media comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Emotional Health Effect

She explained that her son had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' opinions really mattered to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her child told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed online after the accusations.

The inquest learned that one young adult encouraged Kai to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the night before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "caring, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Response

The inquest heard from school staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she called the family's family landline and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they did not got that message.

Formal Finding

Senior investigator informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the police and following his interview he was freed whilst inquiries proceeded."

The coroner determined: "Exists no proof that the actions or failures of any agency led to or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to determine his intent."
